Anthony Davis has rediscovered some of his dominant best as he led the Dallas Mavericks to a hard-fought 120-118 NBA win over Dyson Daniels' Atlanta Hawks.

Young Australian Daniels had yet another productive night with 17 points, six rebounds, five assists and a steal for the Hawks (36-40) in Wednesday night's game in Dallas.

But superstar mid-season acquisition Davis was not to be denied.

The 10-time All-Star shut out any concerns lingering from the adductor strain that sidelined him for six weeks from February 8.

He had 34 points (his most in six games with Dallas), 15 rebounds and five blocks (also a Dallas best) despite missing most of the second quarter after taking an elbow above his right eye.

Davis had 13 points in the first period, and scored the game's final points on a driving floater with 3.4 seconds left.

The game finished with Davis back on the floor, crashing into the scorer's table after defending Atlanta's final shot. Hawks star Trae Young, who scored 25 points but only four in the second half, was short on a 26-foot 3-pointer with Davis lunging toward him.

"We go as he (Davis) goes," Mavericks guard Klay Thompson said. "He's obviously our best player."

A Mavericks team that a few weeks ago appeared headed for the lottery and was in danger of not meeting the NBA minimum for active players because of a flood of injuries sits ninth in the Western Conference with a 2 1/2-game cushion over 11th-place Phoenix with five games to play.

They lost nine-time All-Star Kyrie Irving on March 3 to a season-ending knee injury and sent superstar Luka Doncic to the LA lakers on February 1 in the deal that brought Davis to Dallas.

In Oklahoma City, the NBA-leading Thunder (64-12) beat the short-handed Detroit Pistons 119-103 for their 11th straight win.

They have a three-game lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers with six games remaining in the race for the league's best record and homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs.

Defending champions Boston (56-20) had their nine-game winning streak ended in a 124-103 loss to the Miami Heat (35-41).

Elsewhere, East-leading Cleveland (61-15) beat the New York Knicks 124-105, the LA Clippers beat the New Orleans Pelicans 114-98, San Antonio defeated Denver 113-106, Houston crushed Utah 143-105, Washington beat Sacramento 116-111 and Indiana defeated Charlotte 119-105.
