Australia’s summer villains are returning to Perth later this year.

India — including megastar Virat Kohli, who became this country’s public nemesis this year — will play a one-day international against Australia at Optus Stadium on October 19.

The day-night match on a Sunday will be the first meeting between the two sides in Australia since the home team wrapped up a drought-breaking Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in the thrilling fifth Test in January.

And Perth will also hard launch the new WACA Ground redevelopment — including a new public grandstand and a pool — in a one-off day-night women’s Test against India from March 6.

The West Australian understands the redevelopment is on track for practical completion later this year — possibly for the start of the new domestic season — and will mean punters can watch Australia’s stars from the water at the historic venue.

The return of Kohli, captain Rohit Sharma, star Jasprit Bumrah and the hot-headed Mohammed Shami comes after unprecedented interest in their Test series.

India landed in Perth and ducked into a veil of secrecy, where they locked down their WACA training base before defeating Australia in the first Test in front of a record crowd.

The newly-crowned Champions Trophy winners arrive in October for three ODI clashes and a five-match T20 series. Perth, Adelaide and Sydney will host the 50-over matches before Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart, Gold Coast and Brisbane get their turn.

Perth has already had the first of five blockbuster Ashes Tests locked in as part of a three-year deal to start the home summer in the west.

For the first time, 11 cities will host international cricket this year, including Darwin and Gold Coast. The dates of Australia’s scheduled Twenty20 and ODI series against South Africa in the middle of the year have been confirmed, with the Northern Territory capital, Cairns and Mackay to host matches through August.

“We look forward to bringing international cricket to fans across the country with 11 cities and 14 venues hosting matches throughout the season including matches in every state and territory capital city for the first time in 17 years,” new Cricket Australia chief executive Todd Greenberg said.

“We smashed many records for attendance, viewing audiences and digital engagement last summer and we’re confident that this incredible momentum will continue throughout what promises to be an engrossing season.”

The return of the standalone women’s Test match to Western Australia for the second time in three seasons comes as part of a push for the venue to become a hub for female cricket.

It is understood Cricket Australia viewed the historic day-night match with England at the MCG earlier this year as a success, but the ground was unavailable in early March.

Some of the country’s best players, including star all-rounder Ellyse Perry said before their clash with South Africa in February of last year that the now-boutique venue was ideal for long-form matches.
