Queensland are set to name at least three debutants when they begin their women's State of Origin title defence at Suncorp Stadium.

Maroons coach Tahnee Norris included six uncapped players in her 20-player squad for the May 1 series opener on Monday.

At least one debutant in the outside backs feels likely, given Parramatta's Rory Owen, North Queensland centre Jasmine Peters and gun Brisbane back Hayley Maddick have all been selected.

The Maroons are fighting to cover two spots in the outside backs as incumbent Evania Pelite misses through pregnancy and Warriors winger Emmanita Paki misses selection.

Incumbent winger and centre Julia Robinson and Shenae Ciesolka are the only remaining out-and-out outside backs in the squad.

Halves options Jada Ferguson, Tavarna Papalii and Georgia Hannaway round out the list of potential debutants, with one of the three a chance to partner Tarryn Aiken if Ali Brigginshaw shifts back to lock.

The Game AFL 2025

Captain Brigginshaw played the second two games of Queensland's triumphant 2024 series at halfback but had made her previous three Origin appearances at No.13.

The Maroons will otherwise expect to name a relatively stable spine as incumbent fullback Tamika Upton and hooker Lauren Brown earn selection.

Queensland are expected to confirm their 18-player team early in their camp for the series opener.

Incumbent prop Shannon Mato misses the series through pregnancy, while winger Emily Bass, back-up hooker Emma Manzelmann, back-up half Zahara Temara and second-rower Tazmin Rapana were overlooked after featuring last series.

Canberra's Temara underwent minor knee surgery in the off-season but the Maroons had considered the incumbent replacement player in their selection conversations.
