Mitchell Moses will have just three games to make a case to hold on to his place in the NSW State of Origin side after Parramatta set out a timeline on the playmaker's anticipated return to full fitness.

Sidelined with a foot injury, Moses has been absent through the entirety of the Eels' 0-4 start under first-year coach Jason Ryles.

Parramatta have won just six of the last 29 games without Moses, who has yet to captain his club since being made skipper by Ryles.

After having surgery on his left foot last year, it was revealed a screw was causing the playmaker pain, with the Eels choosing to sit their prized halfback out of the first six weeks of the season.

A revised timeline issued by the club on Wednesday indicates the playmaker is expected to return for the round-nine meeting with Cronulla at Magic Round in Brisbane.

Providing he sticks to that schedule, the Sharks clash will be one of just three games - the others being against fellow strugglers the Dolphins in round 10 and away to Newcastle in round 11 - Moses will have to prove he deserves his place in coach Laurie Daley's squad.

Daley will name his Blues for the May 28 series opener on May 19, following round 11.

Prior to his injury, Moses would have been a certain contender for a berth given his heroics in last year's series when the halfback steered NSW from 1-0 down to clinch the shield with a game-three win at Suncorp Stadium.

A fit-again Nathan Cleary and Jarome Luai, who partnered Moses in last year's series, loom as the natural pairing for the Blues if the Parramatta halfback can't play his way into form.

Meanwhile, the Eels also confirmed that hooker Joey Lussick (thumb) and forward Jack Williams (knee) have both undergone surgeries.

Lussick is not due back until round 11, while Parramatta hope Williams will be back to face his former club Cronulla.
