It's rare somebody with the name Ronaldo would say this, but Ronaldo Mulitalo is happy to enter the longest scoring drought of his career if it means Cronulla keep winning.

Heading into Sunday's NRL away clash with Newcastle, Mulitalo has not crossed the line in his past four outings.

Across seven seasons in the top grade, the Sharks winger has never gone five games without scoring.

The New Zealand international's last - and only - try this season came against North Queensland in round two.

But the 25-year-old, who has 84 tries across his 116-game NRL career, is unfussed if his barren run continues.

"I've gone into a drought, but as long as I'm doing my job for the teammates - running us out of trouble with my yardage and defending as well as I can - I don't care about the tries," Mulitalo told AAP.

The Game AFL 2025

"It's about winning and the bigger picture things.

"I can put that aside for now and just hope (Sharks playmaker) Braydon Trindall remembers to pass me the ball.

"Early on in your career it (scoring tries) is pretty good fun but as you get older, obviously your role changes a bit more.

"It's more about being a leader and affecting the team in different ways, not just scoring tries."

Mulitalo may be unmoved by his own form but he was delighted to see fullback Will Kennedy put together one of best performances of the season to defeat Manly in Perth last week.

Kennedy, unsigned beyond this year, is not held in the same regard as some of the NRL's top fullbacks.

But Mulitalo says the Sharks ace remains one of the game's most underrated fullbacks.

"It's so funny the disrespect that he gets, it baffles me that people think that he's not the best thing for our team," Mulitalo said.

"The way he holds our team together and the confidence he gives me, I know 10 times out of 10, the ball goes over my head that he's going to catch it.

"That's half the battle, other fullbacks aren't able to be that efficient at the back.

"He's a guy that's so safe and so reliable for us and it means so much to this team.

"He's an even better human so it's good to see him get that performance and performances like that show what he's capable of."

The Sharks have won four of their past five games against the Knights, who enter Sunday's home clash winless in their last three outings.
