The Young Socceroos have made an emphatic start to their Under-20 Asian Cup campaign in China, with Musa Toure and Luka Jovanovic both scoring twice in their 5-1 hammering of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Australian teenagers, seeking the double of winning the continental championship while also qualifying for the U-20 World Cup in Chile as one of the top four teams, blasted into action in their group A clash on Wednesday with four goals in the first 31 minutes at the Baoan Sports Centre Stadium in Shenzhen.

Adelaide United's 19-year-old forward Jovanovic started the rout by latching on to a long ball, holding off a defender and hammering a right-foot shot into the net past Kyrgyz Republic keeper Aziret Ysmanaliev after just four minutes.

Daniel Bennie, the 18-year-old winger playing in England with Championship side QPR, made it two on the quarter-hour with a sharp strike in the 15th minute, before Toure pounced for the third in the 26th after Jovanovic's shot from distance was only parried into his path by Ysmanaliev.

The impressive Toure, the 19-year-old younger brother of Socceroo Mohamed Toure who's now playing for Danish Superliga club Randers, struck again five minutes later, tormenting defender Ivan Nastaev down the left flank before firing home the fourth goal.

At that point, it looked as if the Young Socceroos might score at will but the Kyrgyz Republic showed more enterprise and resistance after the break even if it was Jovanovic who made it five, picking up the scraps from a saved Toure shot to put another past the unfortunate keeper.

The Asian side did pull one back in the 73rd minute when Beknaz Almazbekov scored from the penalty spot after a foul from Adelaide defender Panagiotis Kikianis.

Trevor Morgan's side, who are seeking to improve on their quarter-final place in the 2023 edition, will next face Qatar on Saturday before tackling hosts China next Tuesday as they aim for a spot at the World Cup for the first time since 2013.
