Horrific footage has emerged after a small plane carrying three passengers slammed into a highway in Florida killing all the occupants in a massive fireball.

The plane plummeted from the sky and hit the road on a major highway in South Florida on Friday (local time.

Local Boca Raton fire chief, Michelle LaSalle, told news crews the plane has experienced “mechanical issues” before the crash which also injured a bystander who has been transported to hospital.

Pllice confirmed that the aircraft was a Cessna 310 that left Boca Raton airport shortly before 10.15am and all three people on board were killed in in the incident.

“Another person, a driver on the ground, drove through … the fireball and hit a tree”, LaSalle said.

Social media video shows the remains of the aircraft scattered across railway tracks and a car in flames near the site of the crash, but it’s unclear if that vehicle belonged to the victim on the ground.

“Possible plane crash right outside my office today,” wrote X user @DrDronezChannel, who shared the footage online. “Shook the whole building. Unfortunately, I’m certain lives were lost here today.”

A spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration said both the National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA will be investigating.
