Shire of Wiluna appoints Matt McIntyre as new chief executive

The Shire of Wiluna has appointed a new chief executive, who says one of his focuses will be “community engagement and transparent decision-making”. Matt McIntyre will formally take on the role from January 20, succeeding Rob Stewart, who has acted in the role since April. Mr McIntyre has more than 40 years experience in consulting, project management, and local government leadership, with a deep understanding of rural and remote communities. He has a background in land use and tenure planning, environment law, regional development, and sustainability. An announcement by the shire said Mr McIntyre showed “outstanding leadership” as a director at Planning 4 Sustainable Development, guiding local councils and businesses towards developing innovative, sustainable practices that were forward-thinking and community-focused. Shire president Peter Grundy said Mr McIntryre’s proven track record made him the ideal candidate to lead the shire into its next phase of “growth and innovation”. He said the appointment came at a crucial time as the shire continued to focus on its Plan for the Future 2022-2032. “With his strategic vision and collaborative approach, Mr McIntyre is well-positioned to drive positive change and to help guide the shire towards a prosperous future,” Cr Grundy said. “His deep understanding of the challenges faced by regional, remote and Aboriginal communities, coupled with his ability to deliver results, aligns perfectly with the Shire’s objectives. “The council was struck by how Matt’s vision aligns with the shire’s — one proud, inclusive and sustainable community, welcoming growth and opportunities.” Mr McIntyre said he was “honoured and excited” to be appointed to the position and he was committed to fostering strong relationships with local stakeholders, government agencies and businesses “Wiluna is a community with a rich history and culture,” he said. “I look forward to working with the council, staff, and the community to build on the great work already under way. “Together, we will cultivate a bright future for Wiluna, where sustainability, economic opportunity, and community wellbeing are at the forefront of our planning and decision-making.” Cr Grundy also thanked Mr Stewart for his “tireless” work in the role to make further improvements to the shire’s organisational structure and capability, improving transparency and ensuring decisions were delivered. “He has provided strong and stable leadership through a transition and built terrific relationships with stakeholders and staff alike,” he said.
