Melbourne has confirmed Oliver suffered ‘a medical episode’
Swans can’t deny Pyke credentials
“I’m working with Don that he stays with us long term, but also acknowledging that these sorts of roles don’t pop up very often.”
MCG swan song for Barassi
While we wait for some trade news the Victorian Premier has locked in the MCG for Ron Barassi’s funeral on November 10.
“Ron Barassi was a sporting icon - player, coach and mentor - who reshaped the game and leaves behind an enormous legacy,” Premier Jacinta Allan said.
“He will be remembered for his leadership, honesty, integrity, humility, generosity and courage.
“We know Victorians are eager to celebrate this great man for his contribution to AFL and beyond, and there is no better venue to farewell a legend of the game than the MCG.”
The AFL is still considering how to best honour Barassi, with renaming the premiership cup or medals among options canvassed.

Why Freo is going hard for Brockman
Don Pyke CEO race
Swans GM Charlie Gardiner has spoken on Trade Radio and mentioned this on Don Pyke’s potential to take over as West Coast CEO.
“I won’t speak to what his plans are but it’s obvious he’s an important part of our set-up,” he said.
“We’ll have contingencies in place if we need them.”
“But we value Don he’s had a big impact on our program and our success and we hope he remains an integral part of the Swans going forward.
Clayton Oliver concerns
The Australian has reported Clayton Oliver was discharged from Footscray Hospital this morning following a CT scan and X-ray.
Melbourne are still trying to gather the details but he has spoken to the club and is OK.
Oliver has struggled with injury and personal issues in recent months and was recently the subject of a possible trade, with the club choosing to wrap its arms around him following a difficult 2023 season.
Swans not concerned over McDonald future
Fremantle have worked to secure picks in next year’s draft in hopes to make a run at Swans WA forward Logan McDonald when his contract expires.
However Swans CEO Tom Harley has put his support firmly behind McDonald to remain in Sydney.
“No. Logan is absolutely... to use a term from another sport, he’s our talisman and he was pick four for us and a cornerstone of our future,” Harley told SEN on Thursday.
“Absolutely no doubt about that. We value him enormously and I know the type of young man that Logan is, he really values his role in the club and what it looks like going forward.
“I think he’s going to be thrilling the fans at the SCG for a long time.”
