Perth Scorchers young gun Chloe Ainsworth invited to train with Australia squad

Perth Scorchers young gun Chloe Ainsworth says while she’s eager to represent Australia she is solely focusing on just enjoying playing as she embraces a chance to train with the national team next week. Ainsworth has been invited to train with Australia when they head to Perth for the third ODI against India on December 11 at the WACA. At just 19, Ainsworth is already putting her name on the national selectors’ radar having been named the Women’s Big Bash League Young Gun, the first Scorcher to do so, and earning a reputation making the new ball talk. She will now get the chance to rub shoulders and learn from greats such as Megan Schutt and Ellyse Perry to go with playing alongside stars Alana King and Beth Mooney at domestic level. “I’m really excited. It’s a really cool opportunity that they’re giving me and I can’t wait to start with them,” Ainsworth told The West Australian. “I can always go and pick Alana King and Beth Mooney’s brains whenever they’re around and I love training with them but I’m just excited to be around the (national) group. “They’ve got the best players in the world and it’s going to be really cool.” While Ainsworth is winning plenty of fans with her on-field achievements, it’s perhaps her off-field determination that will impress the national squad. “Everyone wants to play for Australia and that’s the pinnacle of cricket but I think as much as I’d like to do that I just want to focus on what I’m doing in the moment so I don’t get too far ahead,” she said. “I’m just happy playing cricket at the moment whether it’s club cricket or the Scorchers or anything.” Her national selection could also be destined, however, with every Young Gun winner from the first seven seasons of the WBBL having since debuted for Australia. “There’s a lot of talent in this competition so to be able to be named to those awards is great,” Ainsworth said. “With fast bowling I like how you can be aggressive in the game and sometimes it feels like you can create things that aren’t normally there. “I think being able to play around the world’s best players is so amazing and I just love being around it.”
